WORKSHOPS/CLASSES FALL 2024

I teach book art classes all around the United States for many wonderful Book Art organizations. This is a partial list of my upcoming classes and will be updated regularly. I find beauty in the imperfect, the ephemeral, the discarded and overlooked. I am always creating. Play is an essential part of my process, whether designing artist books or assemblages. Because so much of my professional work is done digitally, my more creative work provides an arena to play and experiment with letterpress, book structures, paper ephemera, pop ups, paint and random typography. Festival: Stars and Type Mixed Media Flag Book

Gather found type, numerals, tickets, and random images! This book is an easy and fun flag book structure mounted between two hard covers. Paint the covers or cover with decorative paper. Use found typography to create a paper festival, add a bit of collage, stars, and miscellaneous ephemera, and create a dynamic structure full of type and image!

Pop Up Cards

Pop-up cards are fun and addictive to make and even better to share! This class is perfect for making fun holiday cards! We’ll explore a very simple way to create basic pop-up structures that you can embellish with your own images and create your own magical wonderlands!

Butterfly Zhen Xian Bao Accordion Book with Box

Using the traditional folding techniques for Zhen Xian Bao, create a paper tray that becomes the “center hinge” of this fun accordion structure. You will also create two-end accordion folds, two collapsible boxes, and a masu box to ultimately house the book. Small butterflies are added to the interior of the book and “dance” on the box. This is an adaptable book project with the option to add accordion panels to accommodate additional images, writing, and embellishment.
